Remember the date - Saturday, September the 20th,
2003. Remember the place, the Pianeta Amiga show in Empoli.
Remember the names - Max Tretene and Stefano Guidetti. The day
many said would never, could have happen is now in the
past.
AmigaOS4.0 is now running on the AmigaOne.
In fact by the time you read this, the AmigaOS4.0
team will probably be embarrassed by just what was shown, such
is the speed at which improvements and enhancements are being
added to the product. Further shows in Rotterdam and Toulouse
over the next month or so will see the momentum continuing to
build towards the moment we have all been waiting for, the
first new Amiga hardware and software in almost a decade.
We now have three of the most impressive products
of all time: Candy Factory, Audio Evolution and now Pagestream
announced for AmigaOS4.0 and more applications are due to be
announced over the next few months. We are also working hard
with several clients on seeing the AmigaOS appearing in a
variety of non-desktop products, although announcements will
only be made when the products are further along.
We are still are not yet ready to provide an
official release date for AmigaOS4.0 but with AmigaOS4.0 now
running on the AmigaOne, we have crossed the last major
technical barrier and from here on in, we have just a few
tasks left, the biggest being the movement of graphics.library
and picasso96 to PPC.
The AmigaOS4.0 project has been one of the
greatest examples of the strength of the Amiga community -
commitment, loyalty, patience and an unselfish desire to see
our platform brought back to life and made ready for the
challenges of the future. In particular, congratulations are
due to the entire AmigaOS4.0 development team for having
answered all the jibes, criticisms and slander from their
detractors with the best retort possible - AmigaOS4.0 in front
of you. |
