AmigaOS 4.0 development update

The OS 4 development team concentrated their efforts on getting the Developer Pre-release version of OS 4 in a releasable state.

As a result, a lot of time and effort went into the AmigaOne firmware (bumped from U-Boot 0.1 to 1.0 with Amiga specific extensions), the SLB/TLD (Second and Third Level Bootloaders) and installer scripts.

Installer itself was fixed to be compatible with the OS 4.0 default look and the new Intuition.

The interpretive 68K emulator received a major overhaul and now emulates nearly all FPU opcodes including the 68881/2 instruction set. The overhaul resulted in a significant performance gain (20% in some instances) and much improved compatibility with existing software.

ExecSG saw quite a bit of work as well with bugfixes for increased stability and support for processor-specific functionality leading to further performance gains.

The debugging environment (GDB) saw further improvements and now has the ability to debug both EXEC and REL type ELF files.

AmiDock and application.library are now fully OS 4 native as are Media Toolbox, AmigaInput and lowlevel.library.

Work on porting MUI to OS 4 is well underway.

We now have a fully featured IDE.device for the AmigaOne hardware (PIO mode only; the code for UDMA transfers is already in place but requires further testing) and an replacement for parallel.device.

We started work on adapting our USB stack to the AmigaOne hardware.

AmigaInput now supports joysticks connected to the A1's onboard port as well as to joystick ports on soundcards such as the Soundblaster Live!.

The default look of OS 4 was finalised for the most common screen resolutions.

Most functions of graphics.library are now OS 4 native and work has started on gradually migrating Picasso 96 to PPC.

SciTech successfully ported their SNAP 2D driver architecture to LinuxPPC and GCC.

The Developer Pre-release of OS 4 will include Radeon 2D drivers from Forefront as well as drivers for Voodoo 3/4/5 and Banshee.

AmigaOS 4 now principally supports the following soundcards:
