April 2003 was one of
the most productive months in the development of Amiga OS
4.0.
Several more modules entered final beta-testing
including DOS, AmigaInput and the Roadshow Dialer. Great
progress was made on the Picasso 96 Permedia 2 driver (for
Cybervision PPC) and the UW SCSI driver for the onboard SCSI
controller of the Cyberstorm. I'm expecting these modules to
enter beta-testing during the next 2-3 weeks leaving only the
default appearance of Intuition as a major item.
Meanwhile, the 68K emulation integration has now
proceeded to the point that we can successfully boot into
Workbench and launch programs from Workbench. OS 4.0 as a
system now exists.
Current work centers on ironing out some glitches
and gradually migrating 68K modules to PPC.
Over the course of the development, we have
repeatedly demonstrated the functionality we have added to
AmigaOS as 68K modules running under OS 3.9.
Now the time has come to fit all the pieces
together and show them running natively under ExecSG.
